PLEASE READ FOR ALL BASS AND FRESH WATER ANGLERS
by Scott Wilson (Facebook Page)

For any of the thousands of new names that do not know me, I am retired church plant pastor, and current business owner operator, and lifelong commercial, charter and sport fisherman Scott Wilson.

I have been fighting this devastating aquatic herbicide issue many years, but full bore for the last two in this time I have freely guided drone filmmakers, documentarians, Florida and national news crews. I have spoken boldly at (4) FWC commission meetings, spoken publicly and documented effects of constant spraying. I have been taught of many complexities of aquatic plant management by several of the most experienced in this field, including riding large scale harvesters on many occasions. I have studied multiple textbooks required for an applicators license. And, I spend 400-500 hours annually on lakes across Florida.

Throughout this, I have been accused of spreading misinformation, being paid by mechanical harvest company's, lying, even slandered by FWC staff, and had several guides accused me of "attention seeking". None of this could be further from the truth. Anyone ever taken time to know me, know I am likely one of the most genuine and generous people you will ever meet. Including, being out of pocket over 20k. Not having skin in this game and not accepting a dime from anyone.

No matter what untruths you may have heard, or anyone's personal opinion of me or my motives I could give a rats ass. Just like I told Matt Phillips and Kipp Frolich, I'm not involved to make any friends, but to help us save Florida.

If you care at any level about Florida freshwater Fishing. Wildlife, water quality, or long term sustainability you need to keep reading.

I enjoy all types of fishing. After 24 years as a commercial boat owner, operator in marathon and catching about everything that swims at least once. I love bass fishing, but truly love jig fishing for specks (crappie).

Many might say, so what??

Well here ya go.

The overwhelming majority of spraying we have all documented across Florida has been "shoreline" lattoral zone spraying, especially during the spring spawning season.

These shallow shorelines serve as cover and food supply for freshly hatched fish fry, turtles Ducks, waterfoul, and the entire lower food chain, including tad poles, frogs, shrimp, insects, crayfish, and shiners.

I have spoken many times to FWC to tell them the lower food chain in most sprayed systems is decimated.

How does this effect long term sustainability for fisheries??

During the winter speck spawn season specks and small large moth will share lots of the same habitat. For decades, on most lakes I would catch dozens on 6-12" bass in a day speck fishing.

This year (more than 30 fishing days) I caught a total of (3)!! None on Cypress, Hatch, Lochloosa or Nunans. I caught one on Kissimmee and (2) on Orange lake. (BOTH HAD SORES)

My experience and contention tells me that the successful spawn rate and recruitment to the fisheries is being destroyed.

Granted there are still giant large mouth bass in many Florida lakes. But remember these fish are the largest at the top of the food chain. Now with way to many with tumors, infections, and way skinny compared to head size.

What do you think will happen five years from now when these mature fish die off, without successful recruitment?? You think fishing for 12 lb bags is tough now?

Pictured to the right are fry fish caught last week in Lochooosa in a recently sprayed shoreline grass area. Look closely, you really think these fish will survive to maturity?

Do you think FWC Restocking programs can keep up?

Haters can write me off as crazy, uneducated, or out of touch.
ALL GOOD!

But you will remember in five years when Florida bass fishing has dwindled to unrecoverable populations. That you heard it here first.

Rep. Brian Mast
7.27.2020 I testified before Congress today to prevent your taxpayer dollars from being used to spray toxic chemicals on Florida’s waterways. This is a counterproductive way to manage invasive species, and we need to come together to #StopThePoisoning!

PLEASE... Flood Rep. Brian Mast office with calls in support of him speaking up against pesticide use. Thank you!

Scott Wilson, Tracy Marinello and I interviewed, who I believe, is one of the smartest men in Florida regarding aquatic plants. For the last 30 years, he has built treatment wetlands all over the world. He even wrote a book on the subject. His name is Dr. Bob Knight. Wait until you hear what he thinks about spraying aquatic plants with chemical herbicides.

A big thank you goes to our good friend Tracy for setting this interview up.
